In the height of summer, the air in Guiyang’s Yunyan District seems to sizzle with the aroma of chili and charcoal. At the center of it all is Minsheng Road—a 200-meter-long alley that has become a culinary landmark and a hotspot for tourists seeking authentic local flavors.
Though short in length, the street is packed with visitors from across the country, all drawn by the taste of real Guizhou. From changwang noodles and posu buns to sticky rice, sizzling laoguo, fried potatoes, skewered barbecue, and veggie wraps, Minsheng Road offers a concentrated taste of the province’s rich food culture. The mingling scents of grilled meat and pepper fill the air, while the sounds of local dialects weave a tapestry of everyday life.
This street is no recent phenomenon. For decades, Minsheng Road has been part of old Guiyang’s urban rhythm. Locals once gathered here after work to enjoy a bowl of noodles and a moment of rest. Though the stalls have changed over time, the energy remains the same.
